Verisyse™ Phakic Lens Implant
Laser corrective surgery is truly a miracle that has helped millions of people see clearly without glasses or contact lenses. Unfortunately, there are a significant number of people who want to enjoy life without glasses but who are not good candidates for laser eye surgery for a variety of reasons such as: being too nearsighted or not having a thick enough cornea to permit surgery. Until recently, nothing could be done for them.

How Verisyes looks inside the eye
With the FDA approval of the Verisyse™ lens implant, that situation has been dramatically changed. If you have been previously rejected for Lasik surgery, we may now be able to help you.
Verisyse™ Lenses are designed to be surgically implanted into the eye to correct nearsightedness. They are made of a hard plastic (ultraviolet-light absorbing polymethylmethacrylate), a material that has been used to make intraocular lens implants to treat cataracts for over 50 years. Originally developed in Holland, these style lens implants have been used in many countries around the world.
Dr. Richard S. Witlin MD is one of the first surgeons in the United States to be certified to implant the Verisyse™ Phakic Lens Implant to correct high myopia.
Verisyse™ Lenses are optical devices that function much like glasses or contact lenses. They act to refocus light onto the retina. The difference is that Verisyse™ Lenses are surgically placed inside the eye between the cornea and the iris (the colored part of the eye). They are intended to remain in place permanently, although they can be replaced or removed and the procedure reversed. You do not feel them nor do you have to ever care for them or clean them.
The Verisyes procedure is performed in an operating room, using strict sterile technique and the operating microscope. The procedure takes about 20 minutes and is done as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. Each eye is done separately. Visual recovery is very rapid, with minimal discomfort.
The clinical results achieved in the FDA studies with this implant were outstanding.
Not everyone can receive a Verisyse™ Implant. The level of nearsightedness, the general health of your eyes and adequate space inside the eye are some of the factors that determine whether an individual is suited to receive an implant.
